Bob Muens received his early training in Washington, DC from Florentine bookbinder, Gianluca Chegai and noted book conservator, Thomas Albro. On staff at the Conservation Office of the Library of Congress for five years, Muens worked on the preservation and repair of books and other paper based objects from the Library’s rare collections. In particular, he served as conservation liaison to the Manuscript, African, Asian and Near Eastern Divisions. Muens opened his private studio, Bookbinding and Conservation, in Key West, Florida in June of 1996 and has lectured and exhibited throughout Florida and the U.S. He has taught bookbinding at many venues including; the Smithsonian Institution, The Bienes Center in Fort Lauderdale, Pyramid/Atlantic in Maryland, El Archivo Nacional de Cuba in Havana and conducts both group and private classes at his studio in Key West
